USACE LWSC Fish Ladder PLC Upgrades

LWSC Fish Ladder PLC Upgrade

RJS provided the field surveying of the existing componentry of the Lake Washington Fish Ladder Programable Logic Controller (PLC) and determined the needed replacement components to upgrade to a modern Allen Bradley system of controls. The work includes the detailed review of the existing system, the preparation and approval for design documentation, the fabrication of new UL rated cabinets and control devices, the scheduled removal of existing PLC componentry and installation of modern PLC and Operator Interface Terminal (OIT) components. Upon final testing of the new fish ladder control systems, RJS provided all needed training on the newly refurbished system and issues detailed manuals on the use and maintenance of the associated products and equipment.

LWSC Machinery Replacement

LWSC Small Lock Machinery Replacement

USACE partnered with T1-RJS to remove and replace the small locks equipment in a very abbreviated window of time. To successfully complete this assignment T1-RJS is required to remove and replace the miter gate equipment as well as renovate the pumping and control systems to fully operate the lock passageway. T1-RJS’s primary concern is meeting the fabrication window of the hydraulic cylinders, used to operate the gate and valve assemblies of the facility. T1-RJS is currently removing and replacing the antique hydraulics with larger, custom-made equipment that has been fabricated and soon to be installed in the precise layout of the below grade chambers. T1-RJS and Coffman Engineers performed Cloud Point Surveying services on each of the project’s equipment chambers to confirm the new equipment componentry will fully operate within the confine of the design space. Overall, this project has meticulously demonstrated another example of how T1-RJS utilize effective discernment and intellect to assure seamless installation of componentry that occur on Mission Critical projects.

Bonneville Bank Repair.jpg

Bonneville B-Branch Fish Ladder Erosion Repair

T1-RJS JV was contracted by USACE Portland to complete repairs of the damaged shoreline embankment along the B Branch fish ladder. The embankment just below the Bonneville Dam spillway washed out during a spill event in 2021, leaving the B Branch fish ladder exposed to potential damage, and further shoreline erosion. T1-RJS teamed with J.E. McAmis to utilize their custom-built “Sea Jetty” construction CAT excavator capable of moving 40-ton boulders. The  excavator was secured on the bow of a 211 Foot Barge to reach into the waterway and handle the displaced boulders. The initial contract called for the import of approximately 2,900 tons of  W100 stones which were to be transported on the fellow 250-foot barge “Ellis Island”.  Approximately 3,600 tons of rock was lifted from the riverbed.  While a portion of the recovered material was placed to rebuild portions of the embankment, a change order was later awarded to procure, deliver, and place an additional 4,800 tons of R3000 Class Riprap. The Bonneville Dam site is a highly secure area and subject to rapid weather changes, equipment breakdowns, and other factors related to the ongoing operation of the facility
